What kinds of pavement asphalt are there?
August 31, 2021

Pavement asphalt materials include asphalt concrete pavement, plant mixed asphalt macadam pavement, asphalt penetration pavement, road mixed asphalt macadam mixture pavement and asphalt surface treatment pavement.
1. Asphalt concrete pavement: asphalt concrete pavement refers to the pavement with asphalt concrete as the surface course. The mixture is prepared by manually mixing mineral aggregate (crushed stone or crushed gravel, stone chip or sand, mineral powder, etc.) with a certain proportion of road asphalt materials under strictly controlled conditions.
2. Plant mixed asphalt macadam pavement: also known as black macadam pavement or open graded asphalt concrete pavement. Its processing technology and paving technology are close to asphalt concrete pavement, but its pores are large (the boundary between the two is not strict, and China takes 10% porosity as the boundary). Because of the porosity, the pavement is prone to water seepage and aging. Therefore, asphalt macadam is often used in the lower layer, connecting layer, leveling layer and base layer of the surface layer.

3. Asphalt penetration pavement: asphalt penetration pavement refers to the pavement with asphalt penetration gravel (gravel) as base, connecting layer and surface layer. That is, the asphalt surface layer is compacted by pouring asphalt and spreading caulking material on the preliminarily compacted crushed stone (or crushed gravel), or paving hot mix asphalt mixture seal layer on the upper part. On the rolled aggregate of the main layer with uniform particle size, asphalt and caulking material are sprayed layer by layer and rolled to form the pavement.
4. Road mixed asphalt macadam pavement: Road mixed asphalt macadam pavement refers to a high-grade pavement structure formed by mixing hot or cold asphalt materials with cold mineral materials, paving and compacting them mechanically (or manually) on the road.
5. Asphalt surface treatment pavement: asphalt surface treatment pavement refers to a sub high-level pavement structure in which asphalt and mineral aggregate are used to pave an asphalt surface layer with a thickness of no more than 3cm by layer paving method or mixing method on the original asphalt pavement or other medium and low-grade pavement. It is used to protect the road from direct wear and rain erosion of vehicles, improve road flatness and reduce dust flying.
